Immersive Tours through the „Green Belt“

Along the former inner-German border, visitors discover the Green Belt through the authentic stories of contemporary witnesses. The smartphone brings their stories to life virtually and brings contemporary witnesses, local residents and glimpses from the past, almost touchable, into the present.

As a national natural monument, the Green Belt along the former inner-German border is a 343-km-long nature reserve and home to 1,200 endangered species. At the same time, the historical memory is to be kept alive.

An app was developed for the state of Saxony-Anhalt that not only establishes new hiking routes through the Green Belt, but also allows visitors to engage with its turbulent history. The app is free and can be downloaded for Apple devices and Android devices. The app can currently be experienced in Beendorf, Hötensleben and Marienborn.
